No light, no electricity, no power, no problem … this is a simple solar light solution!
Here is an amazingly simple way to light up a room with just a plastic bottle filled with water and a little bleach. Great for sheds and buildings with simple, thin roofs (e.g. corrugated, metal, plywood, etc).
It turns out that just cutting a hole in a roof will only let a little light in under the cut … not too effective for the rest of the room. But a water bottle in that same hole diffracts the light across the whole room. A little light becomes a room full of light! A 1.5 – 2 liter bottle will provide about the same light as a 55 Watt bulb. Isn’t that cool!
Watch this video to see just how easy to install and effective these solar bottle bulbs can really be!
Remember that it is important to use 1-2 liter PET (not plastic) water bottles that will hold up over time. Make sure there is a snug fit of the bottle into the hole and use a metal sheet or some other rugged material over the hole that also allows a snug fit of the bottle. Seal around the bottle from the top surface and from the bottom surface inside the room to prevent leakage. Full details above in the video.
