This secret hiding hiding place involved cutting square out of the back plate of a smoke detector, removing the circuit board, wiring and battery and creating a storage space for valuables. Just install the mounting bracket on the ceiling, attach the smoke detector casing and, bam, you have a great hiding space right out in plane sight. If you have any old smoke detectors around (like a lot of us do), you won’t even need to buy anything. I like the idea of using the smoke detector attached well above standard ceiling height (ie. even hard to get to standing on a chair. This makes it a lot harder to get to.
